Linz An intense post-Olympic week ends for Bettina Plank with the reception at her home club “Kleiner Drache” in Mäder. The honor in the Hofburg by Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen was followed by a “welcome back” celebration at their training facility in Welser Budokan. Especially since the Wels martial arts hall, which was built 15 years ago, is the sporting home of another Tokyo medalist – Shamil Borchashvili.

Yesterday, the 29-year-old from Vorarlberg in Upper Austria was honored by the political leaders. Together with Borchashvili and Lukas Weißhaidinger, Plank was received by Governor Thomas Stelzer. Apart from the honors, today’s in Mäder, in the JJ Endersaal, starts at 6 p.m., completely new tasks await the karate ace. Plank is now one of four new summer sport athlete representatives in the Austrian Olympic Committee.

The winners of the written election – all Olympic participants were entitled to vote – are Felix Auböck / swimming (23 votes), Magdalena Lobnig / rowing, Bettina Plank / karate (20 each) and Magdalena Krssakova / judo (18). The previous chairman of the ÖOC Athletes Commission, Günther Weidlinger (athletics) no longer stood for election.
