Rain expected at Spa: “Usually good for Verstappen, but not now”

It looks like it’s going to rain during the Belgian Grand Prix. That always promises spectacle and Max Verstappen has proven that he can handle that situation well. Still, Helmut Marko of Red Bull Racing is concerned about the upcoming race.

Anyone traveling to Spa next weekend to encourage Max Verstappen is advised to bring a poncho and/or umbrella. Although in theory it is still summer, there will be little to notice in Belgium this weekend. The most recent weather forecasts indicate that we will have a cool and humid weekend at Spa-Francorchamps. The temperatures will barely rise above 15 degrees Celsius and the sun will hardly show itself. Precipitation is expected. Not so fun for the fans, but maybe for the course of qualifying and the race.

On the attack

Verstappen will immediately have to step up a gear in the coming races to close the gap with his competitor Lewis Hamilton. The Netherlands will not hold back this weekend. “We are going for the win,” says Marko in conversation with Kronen newspaper. “We are behind Mercedes in our points total, so we are just going to attack.”

Unnecessary risk

However, Marko hopes that it will remain dry. “The latest weather reports suggest it’s going to rain. Usually that’s good, but in Spa you’d rather not have that,” he says. “It carries an unnecessary risk.”
