Viktorija Golubic cannot use the emotional high after winning the Olympic silver medal in doubles. She fails in Montreal in the first round.

At the highly endowed WTA 1000 tournament in Montreal, the Zurich woman (WTA 47) lost in the first round to Paula Badosa (WTA 31) in one and a half hours 2: 6, 3: 6.

Golubic started with a break, but the 28-year-old from Zurich showed great effort on her own serve. She only just won two of eight service games. She had the best chance of a turnaround when the score was 2: 2, when she couldn’t use two break chances. In the following game, the five-year-old Spaniard, who has already made up 40 places in the WTA ranking this year, took the lead 4-2.

A week after her Olympic victory in singles, Golubic’s doubles partner Belinda Bencic, like many other top players, decided not to travel to Canada.
