Nick Nurse extended until Paris 2024

The Canadian basketball federation announced in a statement last Monday the extension of the coach of the Raptors, Nick Nurse, at the head of the selection until the Olympic Games in Paris 2024. The president of the federation, Glen Grundwald therefore maintained Nurse despite not qualifying for the Olympics at the end of the TQO.

”Extending Nick is an important step for our senior men’s national team in their quest for a podium place at the 2023 FIBA ​​World Cup and the 2024 Paris Olympics. From staff to selected players, we recognize the need for consistency and familiarity so that this program continues to progress towards its objectives. ”

Having arrived at the head of the team in 2019, Nurse has already coached the national team during the TQO and the 2019 World Cup. The latter published a few words to the fans in a open letter published on the federation’s website.The GM of the team, Rowan Barrett is therefore satisfied with this extension.

”Nick is an incredible coach who has already proven that he knows how to win at every level he has coached in his career. Extending Nick allows us to retain excellence and leadership to continue to grow at all levels as we chase the podium and seek to establish Canada as one of the international leaders in basketball. ”

After leading the Raptors to the first title in their history, it remains to be seen how far Nick Nurse can take the Canadian selection. Next step towards that, November 22-30, 2021 during the first international competition window.
