New England Patriots cut Cam Newton; Mac Jones is the new franchise quarterback

In one of the most unexpected movements on the last day of court NFL, the New England Patriots released veteran quarterback Cam Newton. With this decision the rookie Mac Jones will take the balls under the center.

Newton missed three days of practice last week due to COVID19 protocols. Although he was the best quarterback during training camp and all three preseason games, head coach Bill Belichick decided to release him on the final day when all teams must make up their 53-man roster.

Just Monday afternoon Belichick stated that he was not clear who his starting quarterback would be for the start of the season., on September 12 against the Dolphins.

In the last game of the preseason, Newton played two series with the rest of the starting elements. He was replaced by Jones until the third quarter. This could have indicated that Cam Newton would take the first offense for the Patriots, but this Tuesday everything changed and now he is one more unemployed.

During the low season, Newton signed a contract for five million dollars, 1.5 of them guaranteed.
