NBA Rumors: Boston Celtics are unlikely to hold Evan Fournier

The Boston Celtics are apparently preparing to lose their free agent Evan Fournier. Instead, they want to try to find several former Celtics instead.

The Celtics had already made several transactions before the start of the Free Agency (Tuesday at midnight German time). Kemba Walker was traded to OKC Thunder for Al Horford, plus Josh Richardson traded for Moses Brown from Dallas during the week. Richardson should be loud Boston Globe also be an insurance against a possible Fournier departure.

The Frenchman, who was only brought in from Orlando for two second round picks in March, will probably be too expensive for the Celtics. Fournier has some prospects and could ask for an annual salary of around $ 19 million. Boston would probably have to pay luxury tax, so an extension of the Fournier contract would be even more expensive.

According to the report, the Celtics are more likely to use the Taxpayer Midlevel Exception of $ 5.9 million because they would bypass a hard cap. That sum wouldn’t be enough for Fournier, but there seem to be other interesting options as well.

Celtics plan to bring back Jeff Green

Among other things, Jeff Green is said to be high on the list of team president Brad Stevens. The experienced forward played for the Celtics between 2011 and 2015 and was coached by Stevens for a year and a half. Last season he also played for the Brooklyn Nets under Assistant Coach Ime Udoka, who has now taken over the Celtics.

Other options in the front court are said to be Rudy Gay (San Antonio Spurs) and Kelly Olynyk (Houston Rockets). And in the backcourt, too, the Celtics are primarily looking for veterans: Apparently Patty Mills (Spurs) and Avery Bradley (Rockets), who also played in Boston for a long time, are on the list again.
