Ligue 1 – Rennes-Lens: Two early goals and then more, a draw to start

1-1 is the score of this first day in Ligue 1. Apart from the victory of PSG in Troyes on Saturday evening, the three other meetings already played gave birth to the same score: 1-1. Monaco-Nantes, Lyon-Brest and, therefore, Rennes-Lens. Particularly pleasant to watch, this match was played at a high pace and it only lacked efficiency for the result to be different. Lens was able to react after the very nice opening score from Kamaldeen Sulemana (1-0, 14th) to equalize thanks to Seko Fofana (1-1, 19th). Kevin Danso did not come far from giving the victory to the Lensois (90th + 3) but Sotoca was offside.

Finally, the only weak point of this match was the lack of efficiency. Apart from the two goals, it was not until the 73rd minute to find traces of another shot on target. But Gaël Kakuta’s left strike lacked power to worry Alfred Gomis. There were only eight shots on target in this meeting: two for Rennes (in ten attempts), six for Lens (on eleven strikes). Romain Del Castillo, on a free kick (89th) and Gaël Kakuta (67th) grazed the crossbar. As for Benjamin Bourigeaud, he did not go far from a CSC but his head back went just to the left of his goalkeeper post (53rd).

Sulemana, already promises

New Rennes recruit, Kamaldeen Sulemana made an impression in his first official match with the Rouge et Noir. Established in the left lane, the 19-year-old striker made his burst of speed speak and often made the Lens defense dizzy, Steven Fortes in the lead. It was on a counter-attack that the Ghanaian scored his first goal with a curled shot from the right from the left of the area (1-0, 14th). A realization followed by a series of back somersaults that the gymnasts present in Tokyo would not have denied.

But an error by Nayef Aguerd in his area, after a free warning on a back pass missed by Flavien Tait (8th), allowed Banza to recover the ball and serve Seko Fofana for the equalizer (1-1, 19th). Lens could have started with a victory but Florian Sotoca was offside when he headed a free kick from Jonathan Clauss before Kevin Danso pushed the ball into the net (90th + 3). In view of the smiles displayed at the final whistle, this draw between two teams who finished the championship last season with a point difference satisfies everyone.
