Kisner wins Wyndham Championship in six-player playoff

Kevin Kisner he eventually snapped his playoff slump to win the Wyndham Championship. He hopes that victory will help him achieve another achievement, representing the United States in the Ryder Cup.

Kisner dropped his approach shot to three feet on the second hole of the playoff and managed to make a hole to win a six-man playoff Sunday, tying a record.

Kisner, 37, an excellent putt player who now has four wins on the PGA tour, has never qualified or been selected to represent the United States in the bi-annual team match against Europe. Steve Stricker, the captain of the US team, will make his six-man pick after the Tour Championship, and Kisner thinks he was put in the discussion for a spot.

“Who knows,” Kisner said. “I’ve never been selected before, so I’m not going to risk saying this is the year I’m going to be chosen.”

“I love Stricker very much, he is a great friend and an extraordinary guy. He will do what is best for the team and for the country. “

And that could mean Kisner, who is 23rd in the United States’ standings in Ryder Cup points, is in for a year in which he has improved his game in a timely manner.

Kisner has thrown 60-stroke rounds on 12 of his most recent 20 runs. Sunday’s 66 shots at Sedgefield included birdies on the 16th and 17th holes to reach 15 under par and make the playoffs.

In the playoff he outpointed Adam Scott, Roger Sloan, Kevin Na, Si Woo Kim and Branden Grace after they all made par on the first additional hole.

“Standing here is wonderful,” said Kisner, who was 0-5 in the playoffs.
