Summer is often an opportunity to learn the basics of a sport. This Wednesday, a judo initiation was held on one of the Vendée beaches in Sables-d’Olonne.

The French Judo Federation (FFJ) and the FNCP (National Federation of Beach Clubs) organize every Wednesday during these summer holidays initiations in judo on the large beach of Sables-d’Olonne. The objective is to introduce or rediscover judo to the general public. With the Covid-19, the licensees have deserted the clubs and the tatami mats, but the last Olympic games, and the fine performance of French athletes in Tokyo are reviving enthusiasm. Eight medals were gleaned by the judokas, including Rennes’ Clarisse Agbégnénou, a double medalist.

Kba Snoussi, social media manager at the French Judo Federation: “It is true that it was complicated the dojos were closed, it is the second French sport that suffered the most in terms of licensees, so the objective now is to surf the Olympics and the good results to have new graduates in the dojos at the start of the school year! We had 8 medals, it is French sport which brought in the most medals for France. The under 10s represent 50% of the total licensees in Judo, we want to find the youngest in the dojos … “

The idea is to seduce young people to bring them to judo clubs at the start of the school year. This summer, the last Olympic Games and the fine performance of the French and French in Tokyo revived enthusiasm. Laura Foué, animator at the sandy beach club and judo teacher:

“The beach clubs have decided to ally themselves with the federation, they are helping us because we have had a lot of loss of licensees due to COVID. This is already helping us to show what judo is and to try to bring back children in clubs, helping them find a sport at the start of the school year. After the Olympics, there was a craze? The children already know what judo is, it makes them want to, they talk to me about it! women have done well in judo, it is often little girls who want to come and try for the start of the school year, it is well the children want it is the main thing! “
