Jamaican triplet and Olympic record in the women’s 100-meter final

Jamaican Elaine Thompson-Herah retained her Olympic crown in the 100 meters with the second best mark in history (10.61 seconds) at the head of a Jamaican treble completed by Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (10.74) and Shericka Jackson (10.76). In the all-time ranking, Thompson-Herah now only bows out against the American Florence Griffith, world record holder with a mark of 10.49 for 33 years.

For its part, in the 4×400 mixed relays, Poland was responsible for winning its first Olympic title in history in this category, with the quartet formed by Karol Zalewski, Natalia Kaczmarek, Justyna Swiety-Ersetic and Kajetan Duszynski. With a time of 3: 09.87 they beat the Dominican team, which won the silver ahead of the United States.
