Italy surprises in the 4×100 meters, no second gold for Sifan Hassan | Olympics

The evening in the Olympic stadium opened on Friday with the series of the 4×400 meters in the men, including the Belgian Tornados. The Belgian men ran well to the final, but saw final runner Jonathan Borlée drop out with an injury.

Furthermore, it was also looking forward to Sifan Hassan. The Dutch took a shot at an impossible triple in Tokyo: gold in the 1,500 meters, 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters. She already had the 5,000m in her pocket, but in the 1,500m she had to leave the victory to title defender Faith Kipyegon.

Who could make history on Friday was Allyson Felix. The 35-year-old American ran for bronze in the 400 meters and set her counter to 10 Olympic medals, no female athlete has ever done better. On Saturday she can also take a medal in the 4×400 meters.

The relay finals on the 4×100 meters were already on the program on Friday evening. In the women’s race, the unapproachable Jamaica steamed to the gold, in the men the victory was for the surprising Italy.
