The inseparable judo twins Carmen and Ramona Brussig are aiming for a grand finale in what may be their last Paralympic participation.

Tokyo (SID) – The inseparable judo twins Carmen and Ramona Brussig are aiming for a grand finale in what may be their last Paralympic participation. A medal in the legendary Judo Temple Budokan would have a special meaning for the highly decorated Leipzig women. “Judo was born in Japan. It’s something special when you get a medal,” said Carmen Brussig before her competition on Saturday.

The visually impaired sisters have long been an institution in parasports. They won a medal for each of their nine total participations. In London 2012, the 44-year-olds won gold medals in their weight classes. At the summer games in Tokyo, however, they could be on the mat for the last time.

“We have already said that it might be the last,” said Carmen Brussig, who will be competing in her fourth Paralympic Games in the super lightweight (up to 48 kg): “But we won’t stop overnight we can’t do it. ” Paris is only three years away, that shouldn’t be forgotten, she emphasized.

Although precious metal has become a habit for the twins, Carmen and Ramona Brussig have scaled back their ambitions. “We’re not 20 anymore,” remarked Ramona Brussig, who starts at half-light weight (up to 52 kg): “We certainly have a chance of winning a medal, but we have also dealt with the fact that it might not work.”
