“I understand why Ten Hag thinks he is so important, Ajax even turned down 20 million”

Ernie Brandts enjoyed Ajax on Sunday, and two players in particular: Edson Álvarez and Antony. The former international has included the Mexican and Brazilian in his Team of the Week for De Telegraaf.

Ajax downgraded Vitesse (5-0) and Álvarez and Antony scored a goal. “When you saw Edson Alvarez play against Vitesse, you understand that Erik ten Hag thinks he is so important, so that even an offer for the twenty million euros was rejected for him,” said reporter Brands in De Telegraaf.

“I think he is the player of the week,” he continues about Álvarez. “He really won a lot of duels. If Ajax lost the ball, he immediately put pressure on the front and the team quickly regained possession. That was very important for Ajax and is often underestimated in football.”

Brandts thought Antony was ‘great on the ball’. “How Antony made his actions at speed, how dangerous he was. I think the competition from an international like Berghuis only makes him better. He notices that, because he was extremely motivated. Berghuis now has to fight and show that he is suitable for the top, because he can play great football.”
