Treviglio – In a climate of palpable optimism, the season of the Blue Basketball, from this year registered Mascio Group. The new President did the honors Stefano Mascio who with a few but significant words entertained the team, technical staff, media and a fair number of fans who finally returned to attend the PalaFacchetti stairs. Between old and new faces, the impression of a new course destined to give satisfaction to the square of Treviglio, which has always been a hotbed of young people and with a warm and passionate public, was clearly perceived. Leading the troop is a highly motivated coach Michele Carrea, who gave us this short interview.
Coach, arrives in Treviglio on the 50th anniversary of the birth of Blu Basket. An anniversary that starts under the best auspices with the recent news, including the creation of the Foundation, the new sponsor and a renewed roster. Hot impressions?
The impression is of being in a place that has prospects, a reality that has great room for growth, a container that needs to be filled with ideas, that has the ambition to grow. For a coach it is the maximum stimulus. The impression is that of having been able to build a team in line with my technical requests and this also means that it is a place where you can work well and as regards the team we met yesterday and this morning but only for a purely job. of motor reactivation, so it is premature to give a judgment but we (together with the club) brought the players we wanted.
After years of frequenting Palafacchetti as an opponent (and what an opponent: with Biella they have always been spectacular matches…!) Now he will be able to experience the emotions of an audience that was often an authentic sixth man. Restrictions permitting, what do you feel like saying to the Blu fans?
I hope that these restrictions will not keep them away from us because we insiders need “contact” with those who love this sport, it is one of the engines of our commitment. Nice to be in a field where there is already knowledge even if as an opponent; I’ve always come here willingly, sometimes I’ve won, sometimes I’ve lost, but I’ve always gone out with the feeling that I’ve put on a show and done something for people who like to see basketball, this is a basketball city, and I think this feeling will be built with the love for this sport.
On a strictly technical level, the roster appears to be the right mix of experience, youth and physicality. Do you agree?
We built it with this idea. I think that these projects are done with young players who are helped in their path by the technical staff and the most experienced players. We have two fresh Americans, we have experienced players who come from widely used leagues (Sacchetti and Venuto) and we have a pool of very young players who have already demonstrated and who still have a lot to prove. All these new elements will have to be balanced and you must have the patience to leave with the right times.

Ursulo, welcome back to Treviglio! You are the idol of the fans, we know. You miss them?
I miss them so much. Seeing the people and the fans of Treviglio who stop you on the street, talk to me, you can see that there is something more in this city that will always remain in my heart. Now I’m back and we must do well to bring this city as high as possible.

I’m happy with what you said. I am also enthusiastic about this new opportunity, I am very happy because there is a very positive air. Speaking with the coach and the club, there is a very important project behind it and therefore I can only be happy and happy to have come to Treviglio at the moment, in this situation. Obviously, for my part, I can only say that I will put 100% effort every day to try and help the team reach the objectives. I am very happy with your encouragement.
You carry a huge amount of experience. A2 is a complicated championship. With what assumptions do you face it?
Experience is a term that is also a bit linked to old age (laughs) but let’s say that I have been playing for many years and even when I was in Serie A I followed the second league. It is a competitive championship with very ambitious teams and also with surprises, with many companies that are also making an effort from an economic point of view to emerge. It is therefore a widespread ambition in many realities and it will become very interesting to face this championship, especially if we return to the public in presence.
What do you already know about Treviglio? And of your audience whose passion was born and raised in the oratory and now lives within this beautiful boast of the city?
Objectively, the building is beautiful and not everyone can say they have such a structure, even in reality from Serie A itself. played here in the past and therefore I can’t wait to immerse myself not only in the sporting part but also in the possibility of experiencing the city and the fans. Especially the fans I can’t wait to meet them as well as the families that I know attend our “home” with a lot of enthusiasm.
At the end of the space dedicated to interviews and customary photos, the team undertook a training session. Moving away from the Via del Bosco plant we perceived an air of novelty accompanied by curiosity and above all positivity of which the partial opening to the public can only represent the viaticum for a season that promises to be at least fascinating and, we hope all starting from the company, full of sporting and entertainment results. It will be enough to wait for Saturday 28 September to have a “taste” of basketball played with the team that will be involved in the first friendly match of the season.
