Gomber strikes out 9 as Rockies beat Marlins

DENVER (AP) – Austin Gomber bounced back from his shortest start of the season and struck out nine, the most in his career, as the Colorado Rockies beat the Miami Marlins 7-4 on Saturday night.

On Friday, the Rockies used five home runs to beat them 14-2. Instead, they didn’t get the ball out of the park on Saturday.

They had four doubles, including one from Brendan Rodgers, who extended his hitting streak to 14 games.

Rodgers left in the sixth inning after being hit in the right hand by a pitch from reliever Zach Pop. The team announced that his condition will be checked daily.

Gomber (9-6) threw 40 pitches in one inning Sunday at San Francisco. Against Miami he looked solid in six innings, during which he allowed five hits and didn’t walk.

He struck out his last four rivals.

Connor Joe drove in four runs, the most of his life. All the annotations of Colorado came against the Peruvian-Venezuelan Jesús Luzardo (3-5).

For the Marlins, Venezuelans Miguel Rojas 5-2 with one scored, Jesús Aguilar 4-0 with one scored. Colombian Jorge Alfaro 5-2 with a push. Dominican Bryan de la Cruz 4-2. The Peruvian-Venezuelan Jesús Luzardo 2-0. Puerto Rican Isan Díaz 1-0.

For the Rockies, Venezuelans Elías Díaz 2-1 with an RBI, Yonathan Daza 4-1. The Dominican Raimel Tapia 1-0.
