First game for Nagelsmann: Here the DFB-Pokal Bremer SV against FC Bayern runs

• FC Bayern will face the amateur club Bremer SV in the first round of the cup.
• Bayern are the clear favorites, but have had a bumpy preparation.

At the start of the DFB Cup, record winners Bayern Munich should compete with the fifth division team Bremer SV. However, the game in the Weserstadion was canceled due to corona cases in the Bremen team.

It is now also clear when the DFB Cup game will be rescheduled: Thursday, August 25th, will kick off at 8:15 p.m.

Bayern are hot for football again

Even if the preparatory phase under Bayern’s new coach Julian Nagelsmann was not very successful, football Germany is expecting a clear victory for Munich in Bremen. “It’s always a bit bumpy at the beginning. The processes are no longer as easy as when you’re in full training,” said Serge Gnabry, for example, after the 2-0 defeat in the friendly against Borussia Mönchengladbach, explaining Bayern’s rumbling preparation. With a view to the first competitive game of the season, however, he reassures the fans: “It will come in the next few weeks.”

Coach Julian Nagelsmann is also looking forward to the season opener calmly: “We have little time and will have to develop through the league and competitive game operations with the help of many debriefings. So it may well be that one or the other game at the start of the season is not superfluous runs.” But the new FCB coach knows about the pressure in Munich: “When the competitive games start, we have to start winning,” he said after the game against Gladbach.

And the Bremer SV? The no-name troop from the Bremen League wants to sell dearly and provide a cup surprise. The Hanseatics are not completely inexperienced in the cup, but they have only limited success: The last participation was in the 2016/17 season, when they lost 7-0 to SV Darmstadt in the first round. The Bremen team scored the last goal in the competition 35 years ago. Back then, in 1986, they prevailed in the first round of the cup on penalties against Hessen Kassel. Even a hit against the record cup winner from Munich would be a respectable success for Bremer SV.
