Dhe second division soccer teams FC Ingolstadt and Karlsruher SC have reached the second round of the DFB Cup. Only Bundesliga club TSG 1899 Hoffenheim had to go into extra time. The team of coach Sebastian Hoeneß did not get past a 1-1 draw at third division club FC Viktoria Köln after 90 minutes.

Captain Andrej Kramaric prevented another opening embarrassment in the DFB Cup. Coach Sebastian Hoeneß’s team finally won 3: 2 (1: 1, 1: 1) at the third division soccer club Viktoria Köln. Last year TSG failed right at the start against second division team SpVgg Greuther Fürth, and Hoffenheim was eliminated four times in the first main round.

Captain Kramaric brought the guests from Kraichgau with a penalty (28th minute) in the lead. With a dream goal, Simon Händle equalized five minutes later. In extra time, substitute Munas Dabbur (94th) put the guests in the lead again and Cologne equalized again a little later. This time by Christoph Greger (102nd), before Kramaric (107th) made the decision. After a hopeful preparation, TSG will have to improve significantly on Saturday’s first Bundesliga matchday at FC Augsburg (3:30 p.m.).

3402 spectators saw coach Olaf Janßen’s sometimes heated duel in the Höhenberg sports park on the right bank of the Rhine in Cologne, in which the outsider – still without a win in the championship – caused problems for the Bundesliga club in the first round. The Hoeneß team, in which important players such as Ermin Bicakcic, Havard Nordtveit and Pavel Kaderabek were missing, found no rhythm and never got the poisonous opponent under control. It only became dangerous because of the individual actions of the strong Jacob Bruun Larsen on the left and Kramaric.

The Dane Bruun Larsen also initiated the opening goal when he penetrated the Cologne penalty area after a solo run and was kicked on the foot by Christoph Greger. Kramaric converted the penalty safely. The Victoria was unimpressed. Handle transformed a great pass from Greger dreamily with his right foot from 15 meters into the long corner. Philipp Pentke, who stood in goal for Oliver Baumann, was powerless.

In the second round, the guests were able to control the game better at first, but there were seldom mandatory actions. Kramaric headed and Christoph Baumgartner had the best chances, who was defeated by Viktoria keeper Moritz Nicolas. The Viktoria limited themselves to the defensive for a long time and thus also made it into overtime, in which they initially quickly found the right answer to the renewed deficit. When Kramaric scored his second goal from close range, Cologne was defeated.

FC Ingolstadt wrestles Aue in the cup

Ingolstadt decided the second division duel with the Saxons from Erzgebirge Aue on Monday evening 2-1 (1-0) for themselves. After the false start to the season with two defeats in the 2nd Bundesliga, the Upper Bavaria moved into the second round of the cup. The 21-year-old Fatih Kaya met in front of 3322 spectators shortly after being substituted on (79th minute).

The hosts got off to a great start in the game. Filip Bilbija struck a cross pass from Dennis Eckert Ayensa in the 6th minute. Aue pushed after the break and equalized with Ben Zolinski (67th). The FCI earned the victory with commitment. The agile Eckert Ayensa missed the 2-0 with a cracking picket shot (42nd).

Fabijan Buntic was a great support for Ingolstadt. The goalkeeper held great several times, for example against Omar Sijaric (30th), with a double chance from Soufiane Messeguem and Zolinski (37th) and also in stoppage time with a shot by Dimitrij Nazarov.

An invigorating offensive element among the guests was newcomer Babacar Guèye. The massive striker from Senegal came into play at the break and put Zolinski on the equalizer well worth seeing.

KSC takes the cup hurdle with ease

The KSC had no problems with the 4-1 (1-0) at the regional division Sportfreunde Lotte. The Tecklenburger, who had reached the quarter-finals in the 2016/2017 season after victories over Werder Bremen, 1860 Munich and Bayer Leverkusen, missed a cup surprise this time.

The hosts, who started with seven newcomers in the first competitive game of the new season, initially kept up well. KSC only had their first chance to score after half an hour through Fabio Kaufman, who had just started, but the 28-year-old was denied by Lotte’s goalkeeper Jhonny Peitzmeier.

A counterattack briefly during the break via Kaufmann then led to the opening goal for the second division side by Fabian Schleusener, who was also new to the team (44th minute). Striker Philipp Hofmann with his fourth goal in the third competitive game (50th), Kaufmann (58th) and substitute Lucas Cueto (79th) ensured the victory. Lotte’s captain Timo Brauer scored 1: 3 (72nd).

The first round of the DFB Cup will be concluded on August 25 (8:15 p.m.) by Bremer SV and record cup winners FC Bayern Munich. The original game date had to be postponed last Friday due to corona cases near Bremen.
