Brother Mischa reveals unusual measures before the final for Olympic gold

Alexander Zverev will fight for gold in the final of the Olympic Games against Karen Khachanov on Sunday (now on LIVETICKER). Before the match, he took an unusual measure and, according to his brother, Mischa Zverev, switched off his cell phone.

“He did that for the first time in his career,” he said at Eurosport. “It’s a sign he’s ready. When you’re nervous, you need the distraction.”

Mischa Zverev himself said he didn’t speak to his brother on Saturday evening in German time either. Germany’s number one only called his “parents and said that everything was fine”.

He then switched off his cell phone. He doesn’t want to read all the news until after the finale. Zverev threw top favorite Novak Djokovic out of the tournament in the semifinals on Friday and moved into the final in Tokyo.
