ATP: Shanghai Masters 1000 canceled due to Covid-19

We will therefore have to wait a little longer to find a successor to Daniil Medvedev. Winner of the Shanghai Masters 1000 in 2019, the Russian could not put his title back on the line the following year, the tournament having been canceled due to Covid-19. He will not be able to do so in 2021 either, for similar reasons.

This Monday evening, the ATP published an update of its calendar, with all the deadlines of the main circuit planned for the 4th quarter. The Shanghai Rolex Masters (previously scheduled for October 3 to 10) is not included, as are the Chengdu Open and the Zhuhai Championships, two ATP 250s also organized in China.

Indian Wells extended, Paris-Bercy does not move

“We have kept a flexible approach to the calendar this year due to the constantly evolving pandemic, ATP boss Andrea Gaudenzi explained. It is with great regret that we announce the cancellation of our tour of Asia this season, and we hope to be able to return in 2022. “

Usually planned for the approach of spring but postponed for the same sanitary reasons, the Masters 1000 at Indian Wells will take advantage of the space thus left vacant to extend over 11 days in mid-October. No change, however, for the Rolex Paris Masters, still scheduled from November 1 to 7.
