Caracas.- The Venezuelan judoka Anriquelis Barrios managed to take a Olympic diploma this Tuesday, July 27, after his good performance during the competition in Tokyo 2020.
Barrios took the Olympic diploma after being in the fifth place in the -63 kg category in judo, to become the first Venezuelan to contest a medal in the Olympic Games in this discipline.
“Congratulations, Flaca, proud of you!” Mervin Maldonado, Sports Minister of the government of Nicolás Maduro, said on Twitter.
The Venezuelan was close to winning the first medal for Venezuela at Tokyo 2020, but was defeated by Canadian Catherine Beachemin-Pinard.
“I have lost a historic medal for Venezuela,” lamented the judoka after the match in which she was defeated by a waza-ari of his Canadian rival.
Anriquelis Barrios, who won a silver medal at the Pan American Games in Lima in 2019, was able to beat the opponents of the Russian Olympic Committee, Cuba and Poland on her way to the bronze medal.
