Olympic Village cardboard bed breaks with nine athletes

It seems that the cardboard beds of the Olympic Village have seen a parcel more action than expected, as people try to work out how much weight they can take – and it took a total of nine athletes to break one. You can watch video footage here:

Team Israel’s Ben Wanger posted the video on his TikTok account.

Testing their ability, Wanger enlisted eight other people to help him, the bed eventually shattering when nine people jumped on it in unison.

Takashi Kitajima, the general manager of the Athletes’ Village, said the beds can support up to 440 pounds (199.6 kg).

The plan is for them to be recycled into paper after the games, with the mattress components to be recycled into plastic products.

At the start of the video, he explains, “I had a lot of questions about the Olympic Village beds, so today we’re going to check and see how many Israelis it takes to break one of those cardboard beds.

Wanger, who is a member of the Israeli Olympic baseball team, first tries on his own. Then one by one, the members of his team join them.

The bed eventually gives way after nine adult men jump simultaneously and even then the whole thing does not collapse – instead, the slats give way.

Ben’s video has been viewed by over 420,000 people and has over 57,000 likes. He captioned his post, “Does anyone have a rollaway bed for me?” ”

One follower pointed out the obvious when commenting, “I think it would have been a better ~ endgame ~ experience. ”

Another added: “Imagine telling your coach how you broke your leg before the competition. ”

While a disgruntled third party wrote: “What absolute tools to break beds unnecessarily. The aim was to be respectful of the environment. I hope they haven’t replaced it. ”

Rumor has it that the beds were constructed of cardboard to prevent the Olympians from engaging in any small “extracurricular” activity, with many dubbing them “anti-sex beds”.

In a video shared on Twitter, the 21-year-old said: “In today’s episode of fake news at the Olympics, the beds are supposed to be ‘anti-sex’.

“They’re made of cardboard, yes. But apparently they are supposed to break with any sudden movement.
