The XXVIII Descent of the Adapted Sella will be held on August 1

Already found Open during the registration period for those interested in participating in the twenty-eighth edition of the Descent of the Sella Adapted that this year 2021 will be elucidated on August 1 (Sunday) and that, as in the last edition of 2020, “it will have the application of the prevention protocol against Covid-19, while participation will be limited to 80 canoes, due to the restrictions, still in force, for this type of event ”, according to FEDEMA.

The prestigious river descent test is organized by de the Sports Federation for People with Physical Disabilities of the Principality of Asturias (FEDEMA), in collaboration with the Asturian School of Canoeing and the Federation of Canoeing of the Principality of Asturias, together with the General Directorate of Sports of the Principality and the Parres City Council, among other organizations and institutions.

In last year’s edition, thirty paddlers with disabilities participated in the test, twenty-two of them from class A (milder injuries) and the remaining eight from class B (wheelchair users, especially those with spinal cord injuries), a true classic in the summer calendar, where sport, nature and adventure are perfectly combined, being a benchmark of how many are disputed in this country at the level of adapted sport.

The Piloñeses Pablo González Calvo, from Sevares, and Carlos González Somovilla, are the current winners of the Descent of the Adapted Sella that, for the first time in its history and complying with all the protocols due to the uncertainty of the Covid-19 pandemic, it was played in the specialty time trial, over 5,000 meters, approximately. The brand-new champions of Piloñeses, had been third in the emblematic canoeing event both in 2016 and 2019.

Athletes will paddle in canoes specially designed by the Asturian School of Canoeing, at whose headquarters, in Arriondas, the non-competitive section (11 kilometers) will be launched that will take participants to the revolt known as La Uña, at the height of Llordón, where a technical stop and supplies are made for, then proceed to the official start of the competitive section (5,000 meters) of the Sella Adaptado with the finish line located under the Feve bridge, in Llovio (Ribadesella).
