The trailer for Untold, the sports docuseries from the creators of Wild Wild Country

From the biggest fight in NBA history to the hockey team run by the underworld, from the past of former multiplayer Caitlyn Jenner to the problems of tennis player Mardy Fish: the new work of Chapman and Maclain Way takes us behind the scenes of the sport to tell great unpublished stories

Among the recent docuseries Wild Wild Country left its mark: it is a powerful and original story, so much so that it influences a genre and inspire entire productions like the very Italian Sanpa. Now the creators are back with a new project, very different, but which brings with it the same approach to the reconstruction of the most unusual corners of reality. It is called Untold, is produced by Netflix and made by directors Chapman and Maclain Way. In the first volume (as the inaugural season is called) a documentary with the length of a film is proposed every week explores a particularly relevant fact in the american sport, trying to go beyond the headlines and simplistic tales.

For example, the famous is told brawl between the Indiana Pacers and the Detroit Pistons which took place in November 2004, in which a furious clash between the players and the public followed, which led to several changes in the NBA. In another episode Caitlyn Jenner retraces his Olympic victories before starting the transition path. The boxer Christy Martininstead, she tells how she had to establish herself in the world of boxing as a woman and at the same time had to save herself from a violent relationship in private. The tennis player Mardy Fish, then, addresses the difficult balance between career and mental health, while a documentary is dedicated to Trashers hockey team, at one point run by the teenage son of a mob boss.

Untold, in short, it wants to bring the viewer behind the scenes of sport, so that he discovers what he could hardly imagine if he stopped at medals and victories. The project is part of a very broad trend that is having a lot of success in the last period, namely that of live sports stories, beyond simple commentaries or hagiographies: the Espn production was the school in this sense. The Last Dance with Michael Jordan; but the same Chapman and Maclain Way, before Wild Wild Country, they realized The Battered Bastards of Baseball, on an unrecognized minor league team once owned by their grandfather, Bing Russell, father of Kurt Russell. Untold debuts on Netflix on August 10.
