The Thunder would have offered a package around Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to the Pistons

Since the Pistons hit the jackpot with the first pick in the draft, of course their phones are ringing a lot and quite a few teams would love to get it back. We talked a lot about the Rockets, who would be very aggressive in order to set up a trade for this choice.

Among the other very interested teams, there would obviously be the Thunder if Bleacher Report is to be believed. Indeed, OKC, armed with a collection of future draft picks, reportedly contacted Detroit to make an offer around Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and his 6th draft pick. The objective would be to be able to draft Cade Cunningham to give him the keys to the team instead at SGA, which is a bit surprising given the young fullback’s season. However this offer would not be sufficient and it would take at least another future first round of drafting.

SGA is eligible to sign a contract extension before the start of the season and if these rumors are confirmed, the message sent to the young Canadian is pretty clear: he is not untouchable and not really the ideal player around whom the team would like to build for the future. A leader confides about SGA that he is no longer untouchable:

“It’s going to take a really huge bid to get it back, but it’s not impossible to get it anymore.”
