Messi stays at Barca!

According to the Spanish newspaper “Mundo Deportivo”, superstar Lionel Messi (34) and FC Barcelona have agreed on a new five-year contract! The contract should already be available to the league and officially announced by Friday at the latest.

The new XXL deal is said to contain an exit clause of EUR 600 million (previously EUR 700 million). At Camp Nou, however, it is not assumed that the six-time world footballer of the year will actually play for the Spanish record cup winners by 2026. According to the report, it is expected that he could become an “ambassador” to the United States beforehand.

Messi accepted a significant wage cut in order to extend the heavily indebted club. The old Messi contract with a salary of over 500 million euros expired at midnight on July 1st. After that, the striker attracted the interest of Paris and Manchester City.

Last summer, Messi first expressed his desire to end his 20-year relationship with Barca. With the return of Joan Laporta (59) as president in March, Messi was again more open to an extension at his heart club.

Messi is currently on vacation with his family after winning the Copa America with Argentina last weekend.

In the next few weeks he should join the squad of Barca coach Ronald Koeman (58). For the top club, the Spanish league starts on August 15 against Real Sociedad at Camp Nou.
