Santiago will receive its first mega-event after confinement: the South American Master Games already have a date

After being suspended, the first version of the South American Master Games in Santiago was rescheduled, after the South American Sports Organization (Odesur), the Ministry of Sports and the Local Organizing Committee agreed to ratify the mega-event and its realization for the beginning of the next year.

Specifically, The event will take place between January 19 and 30, 2022. The event will feature 12 sports, in categories ranging from 35 to 90 years old and over. The chosen disciplines are: track and field, basketball, handball, fencing, golf, field hockey, judo, swimming, rugby, tennis, table tennis, and volleyball.

According to the authorities, the decision to hold the first mega-event after confinement is based on three reasons: “Protect the health of athletes and all those involved in the Games, as well as support the containment of covid-19”; “To safeguard the interests of the athletes and the organizations involved in the holding of the Games: athletes need to have a space to measure their capabilities and give continuity to the sporting cycles that have gradually been resuming on the planet.”

While the last reason is “the consideration of international sports calendars. The decision was adopted after a long analysis by the authorities so that both the host country and the participating delegations, arrive at the continental event much more advanced in their vaccination processes against covid-19 and thus always ensure the health of the athletes ”.

“We always said it, if the pandemic allowed it and the health authorities endorsed it, we would do the 2021 Santiago Master Games. Today we comply and we can say with immense happiness that we make a dream come true. The call is to take care of this dream and that our athletes enjoy this beautiful event with responsibility “, said the Minister of Sports of Chile, Cecilia Pérez.

Meanwhile, the Vice President of the Chilean Olympic Committee, Aquiles Gómez, is optimistic about what will happen in the coming months: “The athletes were eagerly awaiting the new date that arrives in an unbeatable context, when we are about to live the event most important sport in the world. We are convinced that we will have everything in due time and form to guarantee a first-class sports festival and that it has all the security measures always thinking about the health of the participants ”.

Regarding the registration process, the quotas of the participants who have already completed this procedure will be respected, while those who have not completed it, will have the possibility of doing the process that will be resumed virtually, exclusively on the official site of the games www.stgomaster2021.com.

In the next few days the new dates of the process and other details of the appointment will be announced.
