The 24-year-old American gets his second major after the 2020 PGA; the Spanish is again first in the world ranking despite being third

The American Collin Morikawa won the British Golf Open this Sunday in his first participation, ahead of his compatriot Jordan Spieth and the Spanish Jon Rahm. South African Louis Oosthuizen, who had dominated until Saturday, suffered a bad day this Sunday and could only finish fourth.

Morikawa, 24, is the first golfer to win two major tournaments in his first appearances, having won the PGA in 2020. The winner finished the tournament under bright sunshine on the Royal St George course with a score of 15 under par and two shots ahead of Spieth and four over Rahm and Oosthuizen.

Morokawa took advantage of an Oosthuizen ‘bogey’ on the fourth hole to move to the front of the classification, a position that would no longer yield.

It is the first time that a golfer has conquered the British Open in his first participation since Ben Curtis did it 18 years ago on the same course. Jon Rahm, who started as a favorite, sealed third place this Sunday with a score of 66.
