Mehdi Lahlou: at 14 he hopes to join the Montverde Academy, a springboard to the NBA

If there are paths that can inspire among young Moroccans of a generation Z whose only challenges, for many of them, are unfortunately counted in the number of likes on their stories injected into social networks or their score in video games are definitely Mehdi Lahlou’s.

This youngster, barely 14 years old, passionate about basketball has just been accepted at Montverde Academy, one of the best American co-educational colleges which prepares high-level athletes in sport-study programs. His dream is to be the first Moroccan to join the famous NBA (National Basketball Association), the main basketball league in the world. A dream he has cherished since he started playing basketball at the age of nine. An age when he had already toured a dozen sports including athletics, football, Aikido and climbing! Just that.

This is to say all the character forged by this native of Casablanca at an age and at a time which produced neither Blaise Pascal (who made the Pascaline at 16 years old, the first calculator in history) nor Franz Liszt (who held his first music concert at age 11). A fighter and fighter character who never gives up and stays the course until meeting the challenge through perseverance and surpassing oneself. Two qualities which brought him to the top of Toubkal at only 12 years old…. After five attempts!

Full of talents, Mehdi is also a budding philosopher since his maxim of “believing in his dreams and realizing them by combining daily efforts and divine help” is a masterly synthesis of what has divided theologians and scholastic philosophers for several years. centuries, namely the relationship between divine grace and human free will. Today, Mehdi is determined to be part of the sporting elite of Montverde Academy which he considers a divine “pole” not to be missed to access the NBA in a few years.
