Mali: Coach of U18 women’s basketball team charged with sexual assault

In a statement released in June, the NGO Human Rights Watch (HRW) reported accusations against Mr. Bamba, 51, by several members of the U18 team he had led since 2016.

He allegedly traded playtime or equipment for sex.

According to the New York Times, there are more than a hundred victims in the basketball world since the early 2000s.

These revelations had prompted Fiba, the International Basketball Federation to open an investigation.

Its president, Hamane Niang, had momentarily retired from his post following an investigation accusing him of having ignored sexual abuse in Malian basketball.
