If the Olympique de Marseille has followed a series of arrivals since the start of the summer transfer window, the Olympians give the impression of paying a high price for their recruits.

And this after having chained no less than eight signatures in just one month with Gerson, Konrad de la Fuente, Cengiz Under, Luan Peres, Matteo Guendouzi, William Saliba, Pau Lopez and Leonardo Balerdi.

The ninth recruit is however in the waiting room. After several weeks of negotiations, OM indeed seems to have reached their goal in the case. Pol Lirola. But after refusing to lift the call option set at 12 million that was attached to the loan of the Spanish right-back, the Ciel et Blancs are finally preparing to pay between 12 and 15 million euros according to sources. We have seen a better deal. And all the more so since if we rely on the specialized site Transfermarkt, the player of the Fiorentina has an estimated market value of 9 million euros …
Recruits bought at a high price
But it is a constant of the Olympian transfer window: OM have always given the impression of overpaying their recruits since the beginning of the summer. The tone had been set with Gerson, paid 25 million euros excluding bonuses and profit-sharing on the resale – which could make him the most expensive player in the history of the club – while his market value is estimated at 20 million euros. The observation also applies to Leonardo Balerdi for whom OM agreed to spend 11 million euros for an estimated market value of 8 million euros, which seems more to correspond to his performance last season. The same goes for the last player bought, Luan Peres, recruited for 4.5 million euros when his market value would be only 2 million.
Only Konrad de la Fuente escapes the rule, OM having paid only 3 million euros, against a market value set at 4 million. But it looks like a false good deal since Barça has negotiated no less than 50% of the price of the future resale …
