The NBA has presented a new logo for its 75th anniversary. This is to be seen in the coming season on the courts in all NBA arenas, on jerseys and merchandise as well as in all digital appearances of the league.
The iconic silhouette, based on Jerry West, remains, but this has been integrated into a diamond-shaped background. The number 75, based on the league anniversary, was also incorporated into the new logo for the anniversary season. This is what the new logo looks like, which will adorn the jerseys in the 2021/22 season.
The first NBA game in history took place on November 1, 1946, when the New York Knicks beat the Toronto Huskies 68:66. At that time the league was still known as the Basketball Association of America, the Philadelphia Warriors (now the Golden State Warriors) won the first championship.
The league will announce further details on the planned celebrations and actions for the 75th anniversary in the coming months. For the league’s 50th birthday in 1996, the NBA presented the Anniversary All-Time Team with the 50 best players in league history. It is currently not known whether a similar action is planned again.
If the best players in history are actually chosen again, then probably in the form of a top 75, Dirk Nowitzki will probably also be honored. The man from Würzburg is widely considered to be one of the best European NBA players of all time, having been voted All-Star 14 times and an All-NBA team 12 times. In 2007 he was named an MVP and won the title with the Dallas Mavericks in 2011.
