Japanese robots shoot 100% in the Olympics | Tokyo | Basketball

[Epoch Times, July 28, 2021](Reported by Epoch Times reporter Chen Juncun) During the second day of the Tokyo Olympics in Japan, a robot developed by the Japanese performed during the intermission of a basketball game. Shot. It even made three accurate shots, including two three-pointers, which is impressive.

The Group B preliminaries of the United States vs. France were held in Saitama Prefecture on July 25. After the first half of the game came to an end, the players of the two teams took a break and replaced them with a robot player to perform 100% shooting.

The robot named CUE wearing the No. 95 jersey took three shots at the free throw line, the three-point line, and the center of the court. Although it took a long time to aim at the target, it was able to shoot accurately in the end, including the last ultra-long three-pointer.

American “San Francisco Chronicle” sports columnist Ann Killion shared the popular short film of CUE’s second and third ball on Twitter. After CUE made the second goal from beyond the three-point line, he slowly moved to the center of the court, took the ball by himself, bent his knees and aimed. With everyone’s breath-holding anticipation, the third goal, which also counts as a three-pointer, also hit the net.

CUE is a basketball robot manufactured by Toyota in 2018. Its height is 6 feet 10 inches (207 cm), which is almost as tall as a professional player.

“Business Insider” (Business Insider) website reported that this robot uses a large number of sensors on the body to aim according to the distance between it and the basket, and then adjusts hand movements to shoot the basket, trying to make an accurate hit.

Toyota’swebsiteIt is pointed out that the third version of this robot, CUE3, has set the Guinness World Record for the most consecutive free throws (free throws) made by robots in 2019. It scored 2,020 goals in 6 hours and 35 minutes.

In a demonstration in 2019, CUE3 made 8 three-pointers and scored 5 goals with a shooting percentage of 62.5%. In contrast, the US NBA’s single-season three-point shooting percentage is 53.6%.

It is not clear whether the robot performing at the Tokyo Olympics is CUE3 or a newer version such as the fourth-generation CUE4.

This kind of robot can’t run, can’t dribble, can’t pass people, of course, can’t dunk, so don’t worry that they will compete with real players. A Toyota engineer revealed that it will take about 20 years for robots like CUE to have these technologies.
