Despite his third first round defeat in a row, Jannik Sinner has reason to be happy: On Thursday, the 19-year-old made it through to the semi-finals in doubles at the ATP 250 tournament in Atlanta.

In order to get back the lost game practice and to improve the net game, Jannik Sinner also plays in doubles in Atlanta. Now that he has already been eliminated in the individual, he can fully concentrate on it. On Thursday he did this with success: a few hours after his loss against Christopher O’Connell, the Sesto reached the semi-finals together with the service giant Reilly Opelka – their opponents Benoit Paire and Treat Huey were beaten 7: 6, 6: 4. Marcelo Arevalo and Miguel-Angel Reyes-Varela are now waiting in the semifinals.

At first, however, it did not look as if the duo could win the match: Paire and Huey had more of the game and earned a total of four breakballs in two consecutive service games, but could not convert them. As a result, Sinner / Opelka missed a break chance themselves, but nevertheless decided the set 7: 4 in the tie-break.

One break is enough

The way they got the section breathed confidence into the duo. In the second set there was nothing left to do with his own serve. Thus, a break when the score was 4: 4 was enough for a certain victory and the semi-finals. Against Arevalo and Reyes-Varela, the South Tyrolean-American doubles are to be favored.
