Jadon Sancho is moving from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester United

Professional soccer player Jadon Sancho is moving from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester United. Both clubs informed about the “agreement in principle”. The English record champions pays “a fixed transfer fee of 85.0 million euros,” it said in the mandatory announcement from Borussia to the stock exchange.

The contractual details have yet to be agreed and documented. “The formal processing of the transfer is also subject to successful completion of all necessary medical tests and examinations, a coordination procedure with the player’s previous club and the proper and timely processing in accordance with the provisions of the Fifa Transfer Matching System (FIFA TMS)”, it went on.

Manchester United was already close to a commitment from Sancho last summer, but did not want to pay the 120 million euros transfer fee required by BVB at the time. The previous record transfer was Ousmane Dembélé, for whom FC Barcelona had paid a total of around 135 million euros to the Revierklub. According to reports, however, BVB has to pay 15 percent of the amount for Sancho to his former club Manchester City.

Sancho is the second most expensive Bundesliga exit behind Dembélé. DFB national player Kai Havertz went last year for a transfer of 80 million euros from Bayer Leverkusen to Chelsea.

According to media reports, the 21-year-old England international, who has only been on a six-minute short stint at the EM, will receive a five-year contract until the summer of 2026. In 2017, Sancho moved from Manchester City to Dortmund for around 7.5 million euros and still had a contract until June 30, 2023 in Dortmund.

Sancho was used in 104 Bundesliga games for BVB, he scored 38 goals and 51 assists. In the Champions League he has 21 games and eleven goal participations (five goals, six assists).

Club boss Hans-Joachim Watzke regrets the upcoming departure from winger Sancho. “We’re not happy about the money, we’re sad that he’s gone,” said Watzke: “We would have liked to keep him, despite Corona.”

In order to compensate for the sporting loss, the Champions League participant will invest part of the transfer proceeds in a successor. The last candidate was the 19-year-old Sancho compatriot Noni Madueke from the Dutch first division club PSV Eindhoven. In addition, the proceeds for Sancho help BVB to offset a loss of 75 million euros that the club expects due to the corona pandemic.
