The chairman of the supervisory board knows many stories from back then; his stepfather Michel Förster was not only Alemannia’s equipment manager for many years, but is also a gifted teller of anecdotes. “When I think of Werner Fuchs, I think of rolling up my sleeves and doing it,” says Moberz. “He hugged everyone and always made sure that the Alemannia family was intact. That’s exactly the approach we’re trying right now,” he says, drawing a link to modern times. “Even in the face of resistance, we try to be open and talk to every person or fan group. Everyone should find a home here as long as they adhere to our values. That’s what Werner Fuchs stands for. He brought this attitude to the club.”

Marco Fuchs, the coach’s son, is also involved in the preparation. A few days ago, the 47-year-old saw the final version of the black jersey with the golden imprint “Werner Fuchs unforgotten”. “That touched me incredibly because I became aware of the appreciation even after 25 years,” he says. How fans and officials deal with history is incredibly impressive, he says. From his point of view, the connection over the last few months is also the key to success, says the coach. “It’s incredibly impressive how this jersey puts people in the foreground,” says Marco Fuchs. “The values that my father brought to the club back then are lived here.”

When I think of Werner Fuchs, I think of rolling up my sleeves and doing it.
