Irish rower Puspure fails to reach the A final of the Olympics

In the first semi-final, Pušpure rowed 2000 meters in seven minutes and 34.40 seconds, finishing in fifth place among six rowers.

Hanna Prakacena, an athlete of the Russian Olympic Committee (OKR), who was 10.79 seconds faster than Puspuri, won the semi-final rowing.

The Irish rower was in fifth place for the whole distance. After the first intermediate finish, the first three to make the final A were one and a half seconds away, the next two two seconds away, but the finish was 7.1 seconds behind.

It has already been reported that in the preliminaries, the Latvian showed the sixth fastest time out of 32 participants in the competition, but in the quarterfinals she had the fifth best result.

Pušpure, 39, is a two-time world and two-time European champion, having won all four titles in the last three years. In 2003, she won a bronze medal at the U-23 World Championship under the Latvian flag.

In the previous two Olympic Games, Pušpure finished the regatta in the C finals, winning two 13th places.

The Tokyo Olympics will take place from July 23 to August 8.
