In the last game of the Graudiņa / Kravčenoka group, the Latvian pair sown with the 16th number in the last game on Saturday played the Kenyan duo Gaudenssi Makoha / Brexides Hadambi (21st) with the result 2-0 (21: 6, 21:14).
The mistakes of the opponents in the reception of the service allowed the Latvian duo to quickly gain a safe lead in the first set and win with 21: 6. In the second set, the mistakes in the serve themselves gave the opponents a chance to score more points, but not so much as to be able to hope for an equalization of the result. The set was won by 21:14, with success throughout the match.
The two duos had not met each other so far.
Latvians with 1-2 (13:21, 21:16, 11:15) have conceded to the US duo Kelly Kleis and Sarah Sponsila (9th), but with 2-1 (21:15, 12:21, 15:12) have been surpassed by Brazilian Anna Patricia Silva Ramos and Rebecca Kavalkanti Barboz Silva (4th).
Before the Latvian team went to the court, the pair beat the Brazilians 2-1 (17:21, 21:19, 15:11).
The US duo has three victories in Group D, two successes for Latvians, one for Brazilians, but without success the Olympic Games were closed by Kenyan women.
The Latvian duo Pļaviņš / Točs, who will be seeded with the number 14 in the games, will play their match with the Mexican pair Hosue Gaston / José Rubio (23rd) on Saturday at 9 am. The competition will be broadcast live on LTV7.
For both men and women, participation in the eighth final will be ensured by the two best teams of all six groups, as well as the two best third place winners. Two more places in the eighth final in one “lucky loser” match will be determined by the other four third place winners.
The Olympic champions will be determined on August 6 and 7.
