2023 European champion Vlad Dascalu suspended for 17 months for breaches of anti-doping rules

The International Cycling Union announced on Tuesday the suspension of Romanian Vlad Dascalu (26 years old), by its anti-doping tribunal, for “failures of whereabouts obligations on the part of a rider” (commonly called “no show”) , which constitutes an anti-doping rule violation.

Three breaches were observed over a period of 12 months, which led the UCI to suspend the 2023 European champion for a period of 17 months, starting on May 21. The runner still has the possibility of appealing the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, but his participation in the Paris Olympic Games is very compromised.

Dascalu, who placed 5th at the last Worlds in Glasgow and is regularly at the top of the World Cup (nine podiums in the long format over the last three seasons), was a possible outsider on the Elancourt Olympic circuit.
