Federer capitulates in Wimbledon quarter-finals

Eight-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer succumbed 6-3, 7-6 (4), 6-0 to Hubert Hurkacz in the quarter-finals on Wednesday.

Federer turns 40 next month and has never been able to find the lofty level with his serve and shooting repertoire that have led him to 20 Grand Slam titles.

That harvest has him tied with Rafael Nadal for the all-time record by a man in tennis.

Hurkacz is a 24-year-old Pole who had not made it through the third round of a great until this edition of Wimbledon.

Novak Djokovic and Canadian Denis Shapovalov also reached the semifinals on Wednesday.

If Djokovic defeats Shapovalov, the world number one will be one step away from a sixth title at the All England Club – and third in a row. That would also allow the 34-year-old Serbian to match Federer and Nadal with 20 Grand Slam trophies.
