If the silence after the board of directors of Pallacanestro Biella on Thursday sounded like a bad sign, it becomes difficult to interpret with optimism the news leaked yesterday: the rossoblù club has come out of contracts with Iacopo Squarcina and Andrea Niccolai, or the couple who, at the helm of the young Edilnol 2020/2021, has reached the port of salvation among a thousand storms. If the shareholders seem to have postponed all other decisions on the future, this is probably the heaviest choice among those taken in the meeting of the other evening, long and not conclusive, probably with the Board of Directors in disagreement on horizons and perspectives: it tells of a president Trada arrived dark in the face at the planned company dinner to which he went after the face to face at the Forum. But at least on one point, evidently, there was agreement.
The company has not made official communications, it is the radio market that has sent the first clear signals of what had happened. And for the duo of coaches it must have been a real and bad surprise: with contracts that were certainly not princely but with a clear project in mind, they were ready to throw themselves back into the fray, convinced that they deserved it. Just a few days ago Trada, in an interview, praised Squarcina and announced that he would leave as general manager and coach. Instead, for now Biella has neither of them. Indeed, he is not even certain about enrollment in the next A2 series, to be settled by 22 July and in any case after the next meeting of the members scheduled for next week. But in the microcosm of basketball, the secrets do not remain such for long: if already yesterday the name of Squarcina was compared for the first time to another club (it would be in the shortlist of candidates for the leadership of the newly promoted Nardò), the detail could give courage to B clubs looking for a sports title. There had already been talk in recent days of the first approaches received by the rossoblù club, with Rimini and Sebastiani Rieti looking around. Last summer Biella told everyone no. This year there is still no stance: certainly much more than two weeks have passed since the party outside the Forum with the fans for salvation on the pitch.
