British Open: Muñoz and Celia did not pass the cut – Other Sports – Sports

The South African Louis Osthuizen reaffirmed his lead at the British Open
golf after signing a 65 (5 under par), on the Royal St George’s GC (Sandwich, Kent) on a second day in which the Spanish Jon Rahm, world number two, he recovered from his bad start with an impeccable lap (-6) that brings him closer to the noble zone of the classification.

Rahm is alive. This Friday, with an exhibition at the height of its world ranking, it was once again among the candidates to win the Claret Jar. It did not start well. He chained 5 pairs in a row in the first holes and the ghosts of the opening round began to appear. However, with pinpoint precision in the approach, he scored two birdies in a row on the sixth and on the seventh hole that started the Spanish recital.

Rahm made up for the 9th hole, whose bunker cut short its course on Thursday, with a birdie. And in the second round, he completed his roster with three straight birdies at 13, 14 and 15, to close his record at 64 and climb to twelfth position, 6 hits behind the leader.

The Basque had the opportunity to break the lap record on the English course (-7), currently held by Sir Nick Faldo and Rayne Stewarts, but missed his birdie putt on the 18th hole.

Louis Oosthuizen left another sublime performance. He delivered a card of 4 birdies and a spectacular eagle on the 14th hole of par 5, only tarnished by a bogey.

The South American remains the leader, two strokes behind the American Collin Morikawa, who joined the fight for his second ‘big’ with another 64 (-6). In the third position rides the American Jordan Spieth, who lowered his credentials of the first round with a 67 (-3) that leaves him 3 of the head (-8).

The great surprise of the day was starred by the Argentine Emiliano Grillo, who after making the pair on the opening day, shone this Friday morning with a 64 (-6) with which he registered the lowest payroll of a Latin American player in the history of the ‘greats’.

Reigning US world No. 1 Dustin Johnson improved his credentials Thursday to a -5 to place him, 4 hits behind the solid leader, as one of the top contenders for the British crown.

His compatriot Justin Thomas, third in the world rankings, made a -3 that leaves him one shot below par. Tyrrel Hatton (+2), tenth in the world, stayed in the cut.
