It was the total Monday for Matteo Berrettini, associated with the European coronation of the Italians in football. The Wimbledon finalist, who was therefore also in London, was celebrated in Rome with his compatriots.
A distinguished guest took advantage of the transit of the Italians from London to Rome, on the night from Sunday to Monday: Matteo Berrettini, who had just lost the Wimbledon final against world No.1 Novak Djokovic (6-7, 6-4 , 6-4, 6-3), did not only attend the coronation of his Squadra Azzurra in the wake at Wembley, Sunday night against England (1-1 ap, tab: 3-2). Berrettini thus took advantage of all the ceremonies reserved for the freshest European champions, President Mario Draghi deciding to receive him at the same time and to associate him with all official ceremonies. The eighth player in the world, a little incredulous, was even able to get on the bus reserved for the grand parade when leaving the presidential palace.

Berrettini is the first Italian player to reach the final of a Grand Slam tournament, but he still benefits from impeccable timing: in 2010 then in 2015, Francesca Schiavone then Flavia Pennetta were obviously not entitled to these honors, even though they had just won Roland Garros and the US Open respectively – Pennetta had even prevented Serena Williams’ Grand Slam in 2015 in New York.
