7 Facts Before Ahsan/Hendra vs Kamura/Sonoda at the Olympics

Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan will meet the Japanese pair, Takeshi Kamura/Keigo Sonoda, in the men’s doubles quarter-final match Tokyo Olympics 2020, Thursday (29/7).

The meeting of the two couples is not a strange thing, in fact they have beaten each other since a few years ago.

This time Ahsan/Hendra emerged as the second seed, while Kamura/Sonoda who was ranked 5th in the world were not included in the list of seeds at the Tokyo Olympics.

The Daddies duo advanced to the quarter-finals after winning Group D by sweeping three matches with a win. While Kamura/Sonoda are the runners up in Group C. Apart from the victory over the pair Germany and the United States, Kamura/Sonoda lost to Li Junhui/Liu Yuchen.

The presence of Ahsan/Hendra and Kamura/Sonoda in the quarter-finals of the 2020 Olympics shows the dominance of Indonesia and Japan, which featured two representatives each in the first phase of the knockout round.

Indonesia has Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon, while Japan still has hope through Hiroyuki Endo/Yuta Watanabe. While the other four representatives in the quarter-finals are inhabited from four different countries.

The winner between Ahsan/Hendra and Kamura/Sonoda will meet Endo/Watanabe or Lee Yang/Wang Chi-lin in the semifinals.
