Withdrawing from Wimbledon 2021 with Sobs, Serena Williams Sends Emotional Message : Okezone Sports

LONDON – The harsh reality must be experienced by Serena Williams at Wimbledon 2021. The sixth seed retired in the first round due to experiencing problems with her legs.

Reported from the Reuters page, Wednesday (30/6/2021) Serena Williams suffered an injury to her ankle.

This happened while struggling in the first set of the opening round against Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich, Tuesday 29 June 2021 local time.

Serena also opened up about the unpleasant incident that she experienced at the oldest tennis tournament in the world. Through an upload on his personal Instagram account, the 39-year-old tennis player admitted that he was devastated by this incident.

“I’m heartbroken to have to withdraw today after injuring my right leg,” Williams wrote on Instagram Wednesday (30/6/2021).

“My love and thanks are with the fans and the team who make being in midfield so meaningful.”

“Feeling the incredible warmth and support from the crowd today as I walked on and off the pitch meant a lot to me.”

Serena, on her way to a 24th Grand Slam title, was forced off the court in tears despite the crowd cheering and applauding the American.

Serena has been a Wimbledon finalist in her last four appearances, but her bid to equal Margaret Court’s record 24 Grand Slam titles has stalled since her last title at the 2017 Australian Open.
