Wimbledon 2021: when does the tournament take place?
The 134th edition of Wimbledon will take place from June 28th to July 11th in 2021. The third Grand Slam of the year is the oldest and most prestigious tennis event in the world. The game is played at London’s All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon.
Where will the tournament be broadcast live on TV?
The pay-TV broadcaster Sky has held the rights to the traditional Grand Slam since 2007 and will be reporting from Church Road in London this year as well. In the evening there are also match highlights on free TV on Sky Sport News. The games in Wimbledon can of course also be followed in the live stream via Sky Go. There will be no pictures of this Grand Slam at Wimbledon on Eurosport.
Wimbledon and Corona: what are the rules?
Of course, the tournament in Wimbledon is also under the influence of the corona pandemic. After there was no Grand Slam event on grass in 2020, the tournament will become a model project of the British government this year. At the beginning of the tournament, 50 percent of the spectator stands may be filled per court.
The women’s and men’s finals are then to be played in front of a crowd of 15,000 fans on the center court. Fans who want to watch the games live at Wimbledon, however, need either a full corona vaccination or a negative COVID test that is not older than 48 hours. In addition, a mask must be worn when walking through the facility and the distances should be observed.
The players also have to adhere to strict guidelines. So they are only allowed to move freely within their bladder. Only tournament and training grounds as well as booked hotels are permitted as places to stay. All players are also only allowed to book one additional room in London.
If a player or his team member disregards the guidelines, this can lead to disqualification and / or loss of accreditation. In addition, fines of up to 16,500 euros would be payable.

Who are the favorites?
In the men’s field, world number one Novak Djokovic is the top favorite after Rafael Nadal’s cancellation. In addition, Wimbledon record winner Roger Federer also pays off a little in his living room. But Federer last weakened after his two knee operations, he lacks match practice. In the wider circle of favorites are players like Daniil Medvedev or Stefanos Tsitsipas.
For the women, the circle of favorites is significantly larger and at the same time a surprise is possible at any time, as the French Open recently showed. Nevertheless, players like Serena Williams, Ashleigh Barty, Simona Halep and Bianca Andreescu are somewhat favored. World number two Naomi Osaka has canceled the tournament.
What are the chances of the Germans?
A total of five German men are already safely in the main field. Alexander Zverev, seeded at number five, who last reached the semi-finals at the French Open, has the greatest chances. Jan-Lennard Struff, Dominik Koepfer, Yannick Hanfmann and Philipp Kohlschreiber are also at the start. For this quartet, just reaching the second week would be a huge success.
