Wembley must fear losing semi-finals and final • Can Eriksen return to Inter?

It could just be that the semi-finals and the final of the European Championship will not be played in London. Due to the delayed relaxation in the United Kingdom, where the infection rate has risen again in recent weeks due to the so-called Delta variant of the corona virus, UEFA has drawn up an alternative plan for the three matches.

The semi-finals are scheduled for July 6 and 7 at Wembley. The final is on July 11. Due to the postponement of the end of the lockdown, which was originally planned for June 21, it is therefore questionable whether these competitions can take place.

“We are in talks with the authorities to allow fans of the participating countries to attend the matches,” UEFA said in a statement. “This can be done, among other things, with a strict testing policy and bubbles during the fans’ stay in the country when this is less than 24 hours.”

According to the newspaper The Times, the football association has Budapest in mind as an alternative playing city if there are no exceptions for foreign fans. At the moment, travelers from abroad must first be quarantined for ten days.

For the time being, UEFA thinks that those matches can be played. “There is always a backup plan, but we are convinced that the games can be played in London.”
