Union Berlin to commit HSV defender van Drongelen

When looking for a new central defender, 1. FC Union Berlin found what they were looking for at second division Hamburger SV. Rick van Drongelen is about to sign with the Iron, who could permanently close a known gap with the commitment of the Dutchman.

Has had an unfortunate season at HSV: Rick van Drongelen.

The 22-year-old van Drongelen, whose contract with the Hanseatic League is still one year, switched from Sparta Rotterdam to HSV in the summer of 2017. The Dutchman suffered a cruciate ligament rupture a year ago and was out for months. During his comeback in early March, the outer ligament in his left ankle tore in the city derby against St. Pauli (0: 1). In the past season, in which Hamburg again missed the return to the Bundesliga, van Drongelen only made four appearances.

At Union, the left-footer would permanently close the gap that exists in the defense and was recently closed twice with a loan deal – temporarily. In the past two seasons Union first loaned Keven, then Nico Schlotterbeck for one season each from SC Freiburg. With a firm commitment from van Drongelen, this would be a permanent remedy.
