The professor of the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) Javier Abián has been proclaimed for the eighth time champion of Spain absolute of badminton in men’s doubles, forming a couple with his brother Pablo Abián, who this course has collaborated with the teaching of the subject ‘ Fundamentals of Sports with Raquet ‘in the Faculty of Sports Sciences of Toledo

The championship took place in Cartagena (Murcia); The first round of the tournament was settled by Javier and Pablo Abián against the club players Jorge Guillén (Andalusia) Antonio Mancera and José Alberto Sepulveda by 21-7 and 21-5. In the quarterfinals they beat the couple Miguel Esteve and José Luis Martín, from Alicante, by 21-12 and 21-18. In the semifinals they beat Ernesto Baschwitz and Marc Cardona, from Madrid and the Balearic Islands, respectively, by 22-20 and 21-19. In the final of the tournament they beat the couple formed by Joan Monroy and Carlos Piris, from Granollers (Barcelona), by 21-13 and 21-17.

Javier Abián will attend the Tokyo Olympics as coach of Pablo Abián (badminton) who has qualified in the men’s individual modality. University professor and researcher of the DEPORSALUD group, as a badminton coach he holds the gold medal in the 1st European Olympic Games, achieved by Pablo Abián in 2015. Together with his brother he also participated in the Rio Olympic Games, in which the badminton team got 14th place.
