She was the sensational newcomer to the 2017 World Youth Weightlifting Championship, 17-year-old Kuinini Manumua from Tonga, an island off New Zealand. She trained and studied in San Francisco and won a bronze medal for the United States at the tournament. Next month she would compete for her native country at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. That is canceled because trans athlete Laurel Hubbard from New Zealand has qualified. Hubbard is 43 years old, the last 9 of which is a woman.
