The RFET creates the ‘National Tennis Day’ coinciding with Nadal’s birthday

MADRID, 18 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Board of Directors of the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET) has unanimously approved the creation of the ‘National Tennis Day’ on June 3, coinciding with the date of Rafael Nadal’s birthday.

“It is about all the clubs (more than 1,500 in Spain), the Territorial Federations and fans from all over Spain celebrate Tennis with different activities: social tournaments (mixed, male, female, children, veterans, etc.), classes Teachers, chair tennis, beach tennis, exhibitions, etc “, explained the RFET in a statement.

The idea arose in a television broadcast of Roland Garros held on June 3, when Jorge Mir Mayor, director of the Tennis Schools of Real Club Jolaseta, proposed creating the ‘National Tennis Day’ on the same day as the birthday of the Spanish tennis player most important of all time.

The president of the RFET, Miguel Díaz Román, was watching that broadcast and it seemed to him “a magnificent idea.” “Spanish tennis has much to celebrate. We have the most outstanding Spanish athlete of all time, we are current Davis Cup champions and we are in the finals of the Billie Jean King Cup,” he recalled, advancing that the first ‘National Day of the Tennis’ will be held in 2022.
